Woo Chong Kee
The name "Aunt Daisy" has been popular among the Montreal Chinese communities. Behind the
great legend of Daisy Woo lies the history of shaping up the Gee How Tong establishment in
Chinatown.
Daisy Woo's father, Woo Chong Kee, born in Enping country, Kwongtung China, immigraed to
Montreal in 1901. He started a curio shop, Woo Chong Kee, on Ste. Catherine Street West
and successfully expandded into many other types of business, including exquisite dining.
Mr. Woo was the early founder of Gee How Tong and many of our members received help from
Daisy Woo. While working at an immigration office, she acted as translator on their behalf
due to the language barrier. Her brothers were world renowned athletes promoting various
sports in Hong Kong and China.
The Woo's contribution surely holds an important chapter in the history
of Montreal Gee How Tong.
