Honorable Chan Lin donated & Contribution to Chinese and Vietnamese communities
Our honorable member Chan Lin born in Kwong Tung province China in the year 1914 before he
immigrated to Canada. He worked as a railroad apprentice when he was young but his lack of
interest lead him to become a hairstylist.
During the time of Japanese occupation of China Chan Lin and his family were vacationing in
Vietnam hence they decided to stay and later on established a shoe factory. Since war broke
out in Vietnam, he helped many Chinese countrymen to escape war, for instance, once a countryman
asked to borrow five ounces of gold for payment of fare by ship instead Chan Lin lent him twenty
ounces. Unfortuneately, Chan lost his two sons when they tried to escape the war, they went
missing in the Pacific Ocean.
With sponsorship from his daughter Chan Lin immigrated to Canada in 1981. Now Chan Lin is
retired but his generousity and helpful spirit still continues. For example, the exterior
sign of Chin Wing Chun Tong was donated by him. He also donated money to help renovate Chin's
temple in China and continues to contribute throughout the Chinese and Vietanmese communities.
